I am not a book reviewer, but will respond to this book by saying that I am so thrilled with the impact Howard's story has had on my goalie son. He read it through in 2 days, told me all about it for the next 2 days, then began to read it again. I read it through in one night and quickly understood why my son was so excited about this book. He has a mild speech issue, for which he is teased by some. He is highly gifted with several intensities that set him apart from other kids so much he feels very alone at times. While not at all the same as TS, it's the 'different' aspect that he connected with, and Howard's situation growing up was similar to my own. My son dreams of being a great keeper someday, then coach, and when in the net is one of the few times I see him confident, purposeful, and focused.Thank you, Tim Howard for sharing your story, it has meant so much to son, and to many others.

Absolutely fantastic book! I bought the young readers edition for my 13 year old. She read it in one evening. Then I did the same. If you have watched Tim play, you likely have a great respect for him as a keeper. I didn't really know much about him until the 2014 World Cup, but he is now among my favorite players. It was interesting to hear about his life. The highs and the lows that have made him who he is today. This is a must read for any soccer fan. I think I will also read the regular edition of his book.

My 9 year old daughter is a big reader. It's always hard to get kids to read nonfiction over fiction so I found books that related to her life. She is training to be a goalkeeper and even at 9 years old she's had some disappointments in sports, getting cut from elite teams, not being as fast as other kids, having bad games, etc. She's been reading this book lately and she gets SO excited to tell me about it. Tim Howard shows that he never had it easy and he had a lot to overcome to get to where he is. Very inspiring to a little girl who dreams of being a Women's World Cup goalie some day! She's reading a nonfiction book and gaining some confidence, couldn't ask for more from a book!

I didn't stop reading this book until finished, I suggest reading it as well. I am not personally into soccer/football, but I've caught myself rooting for Everton and the USA team haha. Tim Howard is really inspiring and proves to everyone that his TS was not a handicap to success.

She's a keeper on a select team and said it's the coolest book she's ever read. If that's not an endorsement I don't know what is. I'm now the favorite uncle.

Great read for both parents and tweens. It not only covers the glory but also the hard work he had to put in to get where he is and describes what it's like for even an elite athlete to fail and get back in the game. It also covers his life with Tourette's which was a surprise to me as well as inspiring.

I bought this for my junior high classroom. It has been constantly checked out and the students have been highly engaged with the book.

The author is genuine, candid, open, honest and forthright about her own experiences and those with whom she has spoken and shares with the reader their personal stories in the book. Sex is an integral part of each person, yet it must be protected and cultivated within the boundaries of a one man, one woman relationship and within the confines of marriage, in order to have true freedom. Hats off to Ms. Martin in dealing with raw emotion, emotional pain and the difficult questions young people are asking but as yet have been able to find the truth. In The Bare Naked Truth: Dating, Waiting, and God's Purity Plan, they will find just that...truth.

I guess it's an okay written book, there wasn't a thing that I found to be "wrong" or misguiding. it was painfully boring full of cliches. Not something I would recommend. I read through it in a couple of hours so it didn't take up too much time. I guess I was waiting to come across something that wasn't beaten over my head multiple times (and I didn't even grow up in a Christian household with parents who talk about this) but it's the same crap. It's no different from the other teen Christian books. She tries to be cute and funny, but it's kind of annoying. No way is it inspirational for me to want to wait for marriage, at the same time I'm not going to "open up my legs" as the author puts it. Still kind of waiting bc that's what "the Christian rule" is. =/

The sense of humor thorough the book makes it very easy to read about a very serious thing. I got the book to help me get the right words to educate my daughters on the topic. Unfortunately I personally identified with some of the stories. The good thing is that at 50 years old I finally understand how some bad choices I made as young lady have impacted my life negatively. I see now this reading will also help me to get back in track and heal some of my own wounds. I hope this book helps many young ladies to make the right decisions. I asking my daughters and nieces to read it.

I feel almost l;ike a spy behind enemy lines because I'm not a teenage girl. Heck I'm not even a girl, but this author's insight into adolescent relationships is spot on. She demonstrates an understanding of the male teenage mind that gets into the weeds about how young girls can recognize a manipulative guy who is only interested in ONE thing. If you have girls, you need this book. I bought one for each of my kids, who now have daughters of their own.

As a young woman that is engaged and in her early twenties, I must say that I truly enjoyed this book and got many things out of it even though I am engaged. I'm a (hopeful) high school teacher for a Christian private school, so I am constantly looking for ways to mentor my students in Christocentric ways. I must say that I was excited to read The Bare Naked Truth and I was definitely not disappointed. Bekah dives deep into hard discussions that teen girls face sometimes every day. The only thing that I do advise is that it really is for TEEN girls. This is definitely not your usual "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" purity book (even though I did actually enjoy that book). I would highly recommend it to any teen girl!

Halfway in and this book is making me feel every emotion. I've grown to appreciate her corny jokes!

Not for adults. It's more suited for teenagers.

This is such a great book and I would recommend it to anyone it really tells you the bare naked truth and it tells every side of the story and its a wonderful book a true Christian book

This is a cute coloring book but the lines of the drawings are very thin. It’s hard to use crayons. It would be better tonused colored pencils. My daughter is two and LOVES spirit, but if I had seen the lines inside I wouldn’t have bought it.

This is a self-published printed by CreateSpace coloring book. The paper quality and images are good, but it is not a Jumbo book and it feels like stealing as it is not a book licensed by Dreamworks.

Definitely not jumbo just a regular normal size coloring book not sure why they even use jumbo in the description

My hopes were set pretty high for this title. Overall, this was a good devotional for teen girls. I went through the first part with my 13 year old daughter and she really enjoyed it. It’s definitely written to a much younger audience than my 38 year old self and it does a good job at talking at their level.However, I feel that I need to get my biggest concern with this title out of the way before I go on:At the end of Day 1, Priceless has something very similar to the much recognized “sinner’s prayer.” I really think I would’ve enjoyed this book much more if this part wasn’t in there, since I personally don’t believe in the sinner’s prayer. It takes more than simply saying a prayer to be transformed in Christ and to live your life as His disciple. There’s a lot more I could say here, but it’s not appropriate in this review as it’s not about the book.I liked the layout of Priceless and how it addresses so much of what every teenage girl goes through and feels. It lets them know that those feelings are normal, but feelings aren’t necessarily true. And then it shows them the truth in God’s word and helps them to shift their thinking into more positivity.I loved that it had so many activities to do! My daughter and I wrote prayers together, and it really opened up a lot of discussions about how she feels and the best ways to deal with those feelings. I definitely recommend going through this book with your daughter! It was pretty eye opening.I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This in no way influenced my review.

This is one of the sweetest, meaningful devotionals I have probably ever read. The daily devos are easy to read, engaging, and totally relateable. Each little chapter begins with a feeling and then adds a truth. For example, "When I feel beautiful. . . I'm reflecting God's glory"; "When I feel invisible. . . I'm seen & known"; "When I feel like giving up. . . I'm about to be rescued" (and so on). Through the trials and joys of her own life, author Jen Barrick pulls experience and humor into each devo, effectively getting down to the level of each girl and whatever fear they face. She stresses that when we have those days of not feeling enough, God's enough-ness more than covers us.Jen's story in itself is a work of love & miracles. She had prayed for God to grant her a boldness, but little did she know He would answer that prayer through the trials of a severe car accident & brain injury. What a testimony! and a challenge to live out loud the Hope we have in Christ.This devotional is a beautiful and simple way to teach girls & teens how to study Scripture AND put it to work in their own lives.

The first word that comes to mind when I think of this story is 'charming'. It has the feel of an old world myth or fairy tale. Odd isn't a disgruntled, angry youth like so many of the characters in current YA novels. He's just a quirky kid with a quick mind who loves him mother. I know, that doesn't sound like the makings of a fun adventure story full of talking animals, mischievous gods and frost giants, but that is exactly what it is. Odd's quirkiness, intelligence and humor are exactly what make the story work.The fact Odd has to puzzle out problems in order to achieve his goals, makes this a great story for parents to read to their young children. There's no horrible violence, none of the animals gets hurt, and it doesn't take itself to seriously. I especially enjoyed Odd's reasons for believing ice imprisons rainbows. It's cute and clever and adds to the magic of the story without the need for wizards in pointy hats.If you enjoy Norse myths and are up for a more light-hearted take on coming of age stories, 'Odd and the Frost Giants' is worth picking up. It's a short, happy tale to read during a gray winter day.

Why I Think Boys May Enjoy ThisWell, first off I must admit that I am a huge fanboy for anything Neil Gaiman. That being said, this middle grade story falls into the category of must-read primer to Norse Mythology (in addition to, you know, Gaiman’s recently published collection of Norse stories). This one, however, is written with that middle grade audience in mind and does so wonderfully. It’s rare to get a “new” Norse Myth story but Gaimain does this with Odd. He uses the familiar framework (Loki does something to screw things up for everyone else) and creates an entirely new myth around Odd.The story itself has an Aesop’s Fables feel to it with a familiar plot: magical animals appear to our would-be hero, who helps them even at risk to his own life. Of course, the animals turn out to be gods. In a very Viking way, however, Odd is rewarded not simply for his good heart, but for his bravery and cleverness in helping the gods take back Asgard from the Frost Giant that tricked Loki. Odd’s adventure with the gods is framed around a very nice story about a young boy losing his father and dealing with a disability, yet remaining positive and determined no matter what was placed in front of him.It would be remiss to discuss this version of the book without giving credit to the amazing illustrations by Chris Riddell. In some cases, he was given a full two-page spread to work with and he did not disappoint. With his simple black and white drawings accented in silver (which is just gorgeous and found throughout), this is one of the prettiest books I’ve held in my hands in a while. Riddell’s art amplifies Gaiman’s story in a masterful way. Visions of the Norse gods as they are presented in actual Norse myth (not the Marvel comics version) are wonderful.Content/AppropriatenessIt’s a myth story, so normal myth stuff applies: temptation by beauty, death (but nothing cruel or gruesome), and hardships for our hero followed by rewards for his performance by the gods. There is clearly no language or content concerns across the board and the only real death is an “off-screen” death of Odd’s father by illness after nearly drowning in the frozen waters of the north.The artwork is all G-rated and there is nothing to suggest that the youngest of readers couldn’t enjoy this story. It would make a great read out-loud story with its numerous large pictures and a strong reader as young as 8 could easily pick this up and run with it on their own. If I had to guess, Mr. Gaiman was plugging along on his "Norse Mythology" book, stuck this in as a chapter, then went "hey, this could be a children's book!"...Ok, probably not given the timing of everything. But the similarity of the prose between the two is simply profound. I picked this up within days of finishing Norse Mythology, and it was as though I had never stopped reading.As with all of Mr. Gamain's books, the writing in this is superb. In particular, there is something about the way he has written this and Norse Mythology that makes them feel old, in an antique, biblical sort of way. The style fits very, very well with the setting.The setting is... not what I expected. I expected a story more in the vein of Beowulf. Instead, this was a romp through the mythology of Loki (the fox), Odin (the eagle), and Thor (the bear), kicked out of Asgard by none other than the frost giants. While a good read, it wasn't great. It was, as with most mythology, oddly alien and remote. This is a fine thing, as it is a great introduction to Norse mythology for kids.With that said, this will be a book I expect my daughters to either read with me or ask a TON of questions (both of which are fine). There is simply too much subtle interaction going on in the background between the three gods for her to simply pick up and read away. If any kids book is a "this needs to be read twice to really get it," this is it.I am certainly not disappointed with the purchase. Just not quite what I expected. As a comparison to Mr. Gaiman's other kids books, this is certainly not the masterpiece of adventure/horror "Coraline" nor the silly read-it-whenever adventure of "Fortunately, the Milk." A solid, if slightly niche, addition to our growing library of Mr. Gaiman's books.

This was such a charming, whimsical story. I almost held off on buying it since it's a little on the short side, but when I saw the price was $1.99, I found it hard to resist. I'm really glad that I gave in and got it because it's a wonderfully offbeat little story. I love how Odd "beats" the Frost Giant (it's non-violent). I really don't want to spoil the fun for future readers, so I won't say any more. Grab a copy of this one and read it with someone you love, whether they're young or just young-at-heart. I'm a young-at-heart reader and I loved _Coraline_ and I loved this little story, too. Gaiman is fantastic at telling whimsical YA tales.

There are parts in the book that will give you a "psychic shock" but once you get to understand and accept the truth of it, you will be more free to finally create the life you want; how we create our own victim experiences is one example of a "psychic shock" .I read the book in one afternoon; it appears to be a quick read, but I'm now in the process of writing down the main teachings of the book and find I'm discovering more information as I seek out the notes I want to preserve in my journal. I recommend this book to any brave soul who would rather be a Master at Manifestation than the person Society calls "GOOD".
