I read several books on sex selection and this book was my favorite. It was easy to follow, to the point, and made the most sense. Rather than having you track several fertility signs, which can be confusing and unreliable, the author has you track your LH surge. I followed the instructions in this book to help increase my chance of conceiving a girl. I got pregnant on the first try and ultrasound and blood tests have confirmed we're expecting a baby girl! So thrilled!!

I purchased this book in the summer and after reading it a few times. My husband and I decided to try it out. I bought the LH strips needed to help me track my period for 3 months and nailed it the first time we tried. On Jan 10, we had a gender reveal dinner and it was confimred the method worked for us. After 3 healthy boys we are expecting our little girl in July. I highly recommend buying the book it is very informative, easy to read and follow. I genuinely enjoyed both volumes of his Harley Encyclopedia. I am an amateur HD mechanic and have read all of the books by Rook, Buzzelli and every other performance book I could find. Peterson has a deep understanding and interest in HD engines. His comments are all well taken and even Denish's books don't get to Peterson's tech depth, though Peterson doesn't restrict himself to only performance related topics. Many of his chapters are purely engineering analysis and excellent nonetheless. I'm sorry he Didn't begin the projected 12 volume series with Sportsters, but I bought a 2001 TC88 yesterday and his books are the bibles. His writing style is more or a series of comments by category, but very readable and good natured. From a purely objective viewpoint, his books would only appeal to the HD enthusiast who really wants to master the machine. For my part, I loved them. I also recommend Denish (out of print) and Bill Rook's "How to build a Harley Torque Monster" (very available). Bill Rook's book is mistitled as it is truly one of the best and simplest performance manuals out there. Denish goes into deeper depth and is also excellent, but the Peterson books are as detailed as one can get. Both Rook and Denish illustrate their various techniques and thoeries. Peterson has no pictures and is for the technician who already knows how things work.

I don't see much of the "how to performance" the engine. Mostly gripes about shortcomings.Save you money and read the technical tips and technical from the high performanceparts suppliers. I have been looking at this stuff for 3 decades so know.

Great read for the novice and long time riders. Lots of history and technical data. Look for the other two books if you really want learn how to work on your Harley. Even if you don't work on your bike it's good to know about your ride.

I only glanced at the book but it looked very detailed. It was a gift. He said it was great.

One of the best manuals for the Harley Twin Cam motor. Volume I: the Twin Cam was rather poorly written, but chock full of knowledge broken down into understandable pieces. Volume II is easier to read thanks to an improved editor. Donny is the Einstein of Harley engines. Can't wait to get my hands on Volume III!I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who wants to know exactly how and why the Twin Cam works and how to make it that much better of a motor.

I have read the other works by Donny and expect this one to be as good or better. From the other reviews I feel I will be very happy. This book is a huge 713 pages so I have not been able to reach that page yet but so far I will give it a must have if you ride and work on Harley Davidsons Twin Cams.

There is an enormous amount of published educational research available, and it seems to support just about everyone's point of view. Hattie has done a lot of work gathering and summarising data to produce this book, which attempts to compare a large number of different ideas on an even footing. Aggregating research about education and turning it into actionable knowledge is really challenging, and the kind of project Hattie has undertaken is something very important. However, a number of issues keep it from being particularly useful.There appears to have been no consideration of data quality or causality while putting the research together. Data quality is clearly an issue - the average effect size in all the interventions identified by Hattie is 0.4. It is highly implausible that trying anything at all will result in an expected improvement of 0.4 standard deviations when state & national average results barely change at all, and when they do they go down as often as they go up. Not attempting to deal with this leaves a reader to their own devices to guess what may or may not be relied on.Causality is also very important. Students' expectations of their own grades are highly predictive, and this is accorded one of the largest "effect sizes" in the work. However, this is of little importance to teachers, because it is not the case that students' expectations are a major cause of their success or lack thereof - it's mostly the case that students, being intelligent people with access to a lot of information about their ability, motivation and the challenges of the curriculum, are able to make accurate predictions of their success in it. While this may be nice to know, and there may be a small causal component to student expectations, making no distinction between causal effects and things that just happen to be associated with success again leaves the reader to guess as to which things might actually be good ideas to try.Finally, Hattie's written summaries are poor. There are few explanations of what went on in the studies that make up the data summarised and fewer connections from these studies to Hattie's grand theories of educations. Under the heading of "feedback", coming with one of the largest effect sizes identified, Hattie explains that he spend a long time misunderstanding feedback until he realised feedback from students to teachers was important. Why is he confused about the difference between teacher->student and student->teacher feedback? Why are they collected under the same heading? Most importantly, how does this help me work out how to incorporate more effective feedback into my classes... should I be spending most of my time on surveys?Overall, it is a good concept, but I didn't actually get much from reading it. I think the Education Endowment Foundation's Teaching and Learning Toolkit is a much better execution of the same idea.

Great content, but entire CHAPTER 8 is missing from the book. It jumps from p.126 to p. 159. Ironically, this was the chapter I was most interested in reading. Hope it's the only book like that and not the whole batch. Buyer beware!

This book is packed with statistical analysis of various practices in the education system. It was eye opening to see that some of the practices we are using have a negative or moderate impact on students -based on the research.The only reason I gave the book four stars is due to the fact my book came with two chapter 7s and no chapter 8. I’ve missed the return date so if you’re not planning to read it right away you might flip through to make sure you have all of the chapters.

It is great to know what 'on average' is more effective, but this is qualified by the fact that each intervention varies in effectiveness in different studies. This variance should be a source of further study so that we can know which strategy to use and when it is most appropriate to use it.The other issue that is not acknowledged by some reviewers here is that the measure of success in this type of study is purely academic - did they learn more content or skills than at the beginning and in contrast to a control group. What it also does not tell us about are the other outcomes that are important too - were the students more engaged in their learning, did they become better learners, did they learn other (real world) skills that are useful, and did they learn to get along and work together better? These are all important outcomes that young people arguably need to learn to survive in a fast changing, modern world.The other qualifier I would need to add is that some areas- such as the effective use of technology are largely dependent on the skill of teachers to design instructional practices that are complimentary and sophisticated enough to be effective. Currently teacher capacity in this area is still emerging and so the results here I would have to conclude are tentative, or at least open for review. The more recent works of Robert Marzano have shown far more promise in this area- particularly for interactive white boards.As with all strategies, procedures or practices - no two practitioners, classrooms or school communities are alike and the research evidence presented by the late Graham Nuthall in "The Hidden Lives of Learners' indicated that a good educator continually modifies and adapts 'what works' at the chalkface every day. This would then be a qualifying consideration when analyzing the book. Hattie himself lists others including; the cost of the intervention, and from memory I think the complexity of implementation is also discussed. So don't use the work as a recipe book for state intervention in schools!Overall an extremely informative book - sorts the wheat from the chaff, but must be read critically and in concert with other books from authors such as Marzano and Nuthall.

Who Was H. J. Heinz?     In the summer of 1853, the people of Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, often saw young Henry John Heinz strolling the village streets. He carried a basket in each hand filled with vegetables from his family’s garden. Henry picked vegetables in the garden before and after he went to school. He would take whatever produce his family didn’t need and sell it to his neighbors.   Henry enjoyed bringing fresh food to the village, and he was good at selling. By the time he was ten, he needed a wheelbarrow to carry all the vegetables he offered for sale. Two years later, his little business had grown so much that Henry used a horse to pull a cart filled with food.   From the beginning, he sold the freshest, best-tasting products. Henry wanted his customers to know that any food he delivered was worth the money they spent for it. And people grew to trust the Heinz name.   From that simple start, Henry built one of the largest food companies in the world. He moved his growing company to Pittsburgh. There, he built factories that used the most modern methods possible to process and package food. He also thought up new ways to attract customers’ attention. One was to come up with a slogan—a phrase that described his company and its products. Henry put the slogan “57 Varieties” on all his labels. It let people know that Henry sold a wide range of products, from pickles to baked beans.   Selling food might seem like an easy thing to do. Everyone has to eat, and many people don’t have time to raise crops and prepare their own foods. But H. J. Heinz made better-quality food and sold more of it than anyone else of his day. His hard work and smart ideas proved one of his favorite sayings: “To do a common thing uncommonly well brings success.”    Chapter 1: The Young Salesman     Beginning in the 1680s, many German immigrants took the long voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to Pennsylvania. John Heinz made that trip in 1840, settling just outside of Pittsburgh in the village of Birmingham. The village sat along the Monongahela (say: muh-nah-guh-HEE-lah) River. The area was known for its bustling factories that made glass, iron, and bricks. The sky was often thick with smoke from the coal that was burned to power all the factory machines.   John Heinz found a job making bricks, and three years after his arrival in Birmingham, he met and married Anna Schmitt. Like her husband, she had come to Pennsylvania from Germany. On October 11, 1844, the Heinzes had their first child, a boy they named Henry John but sometimes called Harry. The Heinz family would grow to include nine children: four boys and five girls. One of their daughters, however, died when she was only a baby.   The Heinzes lived in Birmingham until Henry was five years old, and then they moved to the nearby village of Sharpsburg. The town was on the banks of the Allegheny River and was famous for its brickyards. Mr. Heinz decided to go into the brickmaking business for himself.   Mrs. Heinz and the other German women in their community made most of their own food. They grew many of the same crops they had in Germany, such as cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes, turnips, and carrots. The German families usually raised some chickens, too.   Mrs. Heinz was a deeply religious woman. She made sure all her children went to church, and she taught them lessons from the Bible. The Heinz family followed the Lutheran faith, and Henry went to a school run by a Lutheran church. He learned to read and write English, and did well in math. Every day he walked over a mile each way to school and back. Like many German immigrants, Mr. and Mrs. Heinz believed in the importance of hard work. They made sure Henry learned that, too.   By the time he was eight, Henry was working in the family garden before and after school. Then he started his own little business selling vegetables to neighbors. But that wasn’t his only job. At times, he led the horses that pulled boats up the Allegheny River.   In the 1850s, small boats didn’t have motors so they needed horsepower—horses walking along the riverbank, tied to the boats to pull them along. Henry also picked potatoes for a local farmer. Years later, someone asked him how he could do so much at such a young age. He said simply, “We country boys work.”   But selling vegetables was the job Henry liked best. His parents saw that he was good at it, so they gave him a small plot of the family’s land. Henry began raising his own crops to sell. And when he was twelve, his little farm tripled in size. Henry bought a horse and cart to carry all his vegetables into town.   At fifteen, Henry quit school and began working for his father. But he decided to take just one more class, to learn bookkeeping. He wanted to learn how to keep track of the money his father’s company spent on supplies and how much it earned selling bricks. Henry could use his bookkeeping skills in his own business, too.   And Henry’s food business was expanding. At times, he awoke at 3:00 a.m. so he could take his vegetables to stores in Pittsburgh before going to work for his father. Henry also sold one product that came in a bottle—horseradish. Henry had helped his mother prepare horseradish for their own family. And it wasn’t a fun job. Horseradish grows as a root, so farmers have to dig it up, wash it, and then grate it.   Henry first made his horseradish in a brick home his father built for the family in 1854. (Henry had actually helped his father make some of the bricks for the house!) Because preparing horseradish was hard work, Henry knew he could make money selling it to people who didn’t want to bother making it themselves.   Henry also knew that other merchants sold their horseradish in dark bottles. They tried to cheat their customers by adding other things like leaves or wood pulp to the horseradish. And the dark glass bottles hid all those “add-ins.”    Henry sold his horseradish in clear bottles. He proudly showed his customers that his horseradish contained only horseradish.   His experience selling horseradish taught Henry two important lessons. Some people were willing to pay for prepared food, rather than make it themselves. And they would pay a little more for the best-quality ingredients. Henry was ready to provide both.

JAMIE PURVIANCE is one of America’s top grilling experts and Weber’s master griller. My wife purchased this for me for father's day. I believe my family was tired off the fame old on the grill. For you grill geeks it's a blue 22.5 kettle gold performer from of course weber. With Stubbs charcoal for smoking otherwise it's kingsford.So far it's been beef ribs pork ribs, pork loin, pork shoulder, beef brisket, and if you don't like meat rack of lamb. Every single entree has been incredible. My parents even said oh wow your brother doesn't make lamb this good. Just for everyone out there for comparison sake I have to trek you my brother is a chef working for a resort. So either it was really good our they were just making me feel good. My 17 year old did eat and entire rack.So if you want the good to disappear and everyone to compliment you on your skills this is the book to get

First part of the book explains everything you wanted to know about smoking in a totally accessible and understandable way. Removes the mystery and intimidation factor associated with smoking, really. That information alone is worth the cost of the book. But the recipes, OH THE RECIPES!!! They are totally amazing!! Impossible to overstate how amazing they are. And the recipes aren't like those unbelievably pretentious recipes with exotic ingredients and hours of manual labour for a mediocre (at best) result. No, these recipes ask for items you can find at your local grocery store (wood chips, chili powder, etc.) or Amazon in a pinch. Every recipe has a picture of the final product, which I love because that's how I choose what to make for the week. The book also tells you what type of grill works best for each recipe (water smoker, gas grill, etc.) but I just use the good old gas grill with a smoke box.I gave this book to a family member who was just starting out smoking. He literally pored over it for hours, reading the ins and outs of smoking and picking recipes. He's smoked once, maybe twice before. He made the Smoked Salmon recipe from this book and he emailed me to thank me for the book and rave about how awesome it was. I personally have tried probably twenty recipes in the book so far and all of them were home runs. I can't recommend this book enough. You should buy it; you can thank me later.

Jamie Purviance is an excellent teacher. When shopping for my Weber Smokey Mountain smoker, I was very happy to see that he had written a book on smoking. Unfortunately, I found the book light on recipes for the WSM and heavy on recipes for other Weber products. Even so, this book has some tempting recipes for smoke, brines, rubs, marinades and sauces along with enough background information for you to apply the book's lessons and create your smoked food your way.

An overabundance of vibrant photography and illustrations serves to help the reader soak up information like a sponge.Even a BBQ enthusiast like me has found many useful tips, tricks and nuggets hidden between the lines. Moreover, the recipes are inspiring...traditional and non-traditional BBQ dishes that challenge beginners to experts. Also, the inclusion of Latin cuisine is my favorite theme about this book. I grew up with parents who cooked authentic Mexican cuisine and I have incorporated that into my BBQ for years. Jamie Purviance's experience in Latin cuisine brings a whole new level of flavor to the table...literally! If you haven't tried BBQ tamales, you're missing out...this book has the recipe!Some hardcore pitmasters may be disappointed to find that this book is not like the "storyteller" BBQ books that have come out recently or that Jamie does not touch on long standing low and slow debates such as..."should the brisket go fat side up or down?" But for the casual backyard weekend warriors, the tutorial and recipes in this book will guide you to impress your family, friends and neighbors. Well done!

I have been cooking outdoors since I was a kid helping my dad and mom make some great meals. I have used Weber Grills and recipes for the past 10 years and they are excellent recipes and great flavor. I have vertical smoker, weber kettle grill, and weber gas grill, along with my dutch ovens from Camp Chef. Why would you buy this book? (If you only do burgers, hot dogs and the occasional quick chicken save you money, but if you are interested in expanding your culinary horizon this is a great book.1. I used this book the very first time I cooked a turkey for Thanksgiving. There was a recipe for exactly what I wanted to do. I cooked on my new Weber gas grill. The ingredients were easy to find at the grocery store and instructions easy to follow.The smoke flavoring was just right and I had many compliments on the bird. It came out a nice golden brown.

Great, glossy photos. One can certainly tell that this was written by Weber. I own both a Weber Genesis and 18" smoker - both great grills. Their handel lights and grill covers leave a lot to be desired, but the grills themselves are top-notch! Being new to smoking I appreciated the info specific to my brand of smoker and grill. Unfortunately, the majority of this book is filled with recipes. The actual smoking process, what to do and not do could be condensed into a 20 page pamphlet. Had I known this was mostly recipes, I would not have bought it. Still looking for a detailed guide on the ins and outs of smoking.

As someone who has read 100+ personal development books, I found Jen's rendition to be much of the same advice repackaged in her voice.So the pro's of this book:I love that it's in her voice. It's engaging and I find that listening to these kind of audiobooks, even if they are repeating the same information, beneficitial.The con's of this book:Nearly nothing feels or seems remotely fresh in terms of new ways of seeing my money situation. In terms of results from this book, I didn't notice any inclination to take more action. She's also a coach, and touts the benefits of coaching in almost every chapter. I don't mind that she's selling herself in her own book... but at the same time it just made me have my hackles up most of the book because the way it was presented seemed like coaching was The Answer most of the time, instead of 'a possible answer if it makes sense to you'.There are other books I found way more useful in terms of motivation, inspiration, and lasting change. Some of them being; The Richest Man In Babylon. After years and years, I still apply what I've learned there. I know what I applied will let me comfortably retire on over a million dollars.I'm sorry to write this review in some ways, because Jen really has a great tone of voice but honestly this is what I got from this book.

I honestly do not understand the book's high rating and appeal. After reading through it near two times, afraid I perhaps missed some important details the first time through somehow, I'm pretty shocked at how well the book is performing critically.There is a large amount of enthusiasm in the book, but very little practicality behind it.One great example of this is how the book has several mini-stories about random people who "made money successfully." One of them is about a woman who needed a lot of money quick. She went into the attic and discovered a stock/bond paper or something that turns out to be worth exactly the amount of money she needed! Amazing, the moral of the story: YOU CAN MAKE MONEY LIKE THIS TOO!See the problem? The book is littered with stuff like this, over and over.The author spends a large amount of time writing how she had to come up with a large amount of money for some seminars on how to make money. Something like $80,000 for a seminar. Which she ends up borrowing from someone. By the end, I'm more confused than when I started. Was the lesson to not be afraid to ask people for money? Were there tips on how to ask people for money? Was it a recommendation to not be afraid to spend large amounts of money that isn't yours on seminars? That's nearly 1/2 a year's salary for someone with a technical job like myself, well above the average person. No one in the right mind set should follow that advice. Never put yourself in crippling debt, with a friend or family member no less, for something like a ~seminar~.What exactly the author benefited out of that kind of money being spent on a ~seminar~ was totally lost on me. More so on the second time I read those parts.Who is this book for?I guess it's for people who think their money problems go away by spending more money than they have on seminars and feel-better-about-yourself guides.What does this book do?I guess at the end of it, you get you into the mind set that you could get away with robbery for silly reasons (like asking your friend/family for a stupid amount of money on loan). I'm guessing that is the point of the title.What does this book not do?Not a drop of practical advice on making money and actually being badass at making money. Just makes you think it, somehow?

This book was terrible and a waste of my time. I liked Jen's last book, but this book was just like it. 1. You are a badass 2. Think positive 3. The universe blah blah blah. Please do not waste your money.

I would have been $9.99 richer if I hadn't spent money on this book. It's basically a pep talk with no actual advice, just the same basic mantra of "believe you'll make money and you will" repeated over and over and over.It took me so long to get through the first 70% of the book, thinking "surely it will get better eventually" without it ever getting better that I was past the seven day return policy for a Kindle book.

This book is about changing your mindset. It isn't revolutionary. The overuse of "etc." is annoying in the audio book.

Not realistic at all. I like her enthusiasm and all, but it's the same words over and over with some "I spent $80,000 on seminars" thrown in. Who has $80,000 laying around to teach them how to make more money? Normal people just don't. I have a hard time with her whole "I was 40 and totally broke" thing to spending that much on self help seminars. She got lucky, plain and simple.

As a followup to Jen Sincero's "You are a Badass," she dives further into the concept of generating more money by bringing us "You are a Badass at Making Money." This is the book I started 2018 reading. What I learned from this book is exactly what I'm seeing repeated in every book I've read about creating wealth and abundance. It's all about changing your mindset and tapping into that wealth. Wealth is already available to each of us. We just have to learn how to access it. A lot of this has to do with facing our fears and taking a good hard look at how we view money. For many people, we look at money negatively. We don't see money as a means to an end. When we receive money, we are happy. When it is taken away from us, we are sad. When we don't have any money, we are scared, fearful, and missing it like an ex-lover that has left us. Yet, money gets a bad rap. People claim it is the root of all evil, when in fact it is not money that is evil. Money is a medium. It is what we decide to do with money that determines whether the use of money is good or evil. In other words, it is the person using the money that is innately good or evil. We are the ones who decide that, not money.By dealing with how we view and treat money, this book is designed to help us get to the root of why we are in the predicament we are in when it comes to money. It is up to us to deal with and change how we view money, especially if we want an abundance, rather than a lack of it.
