However, I recently purchased a fantastic soft cover book (The Karate Handbook by Ray Pawlett) at a bargain price on Amazon.One of the interesting things I have observed over the years is that some of the very best books on Karate-do are published in England. They do have excellent Karate teachers and this wonderful book is an example of a well-written, beautifully illustrated basic karate text that any Karate student would love. This is not to say this book would take the place of hands-on lessons from a qualified instructor, but if you are presently taking karate lessons this book should be in your personal library. The color photographs are clear and easy to follow.This book is organized into seven detailed chapters and includes the following: Chapter 1, gives a good basic introduction to Karate. The second chapter asks the reader “Is karate for me?” Chapter three explains the various warm-up exercises and other fitness factors. The fourth chapter shows the basic stances and movements in karate. Chapter five explains the basic karate techniques. Chapter 6 covers the basic lower belt Katas (forms) of Karate. And decided that keeping a T is not for me at this time in my life. Perhaps in the future!Please do read this book before buying a Tarantula. If you decide to go for it you will be really well-equipped to handle just about anything, from substrate requirements to bites to creating an Intensive Care Unit for a sick spider.Excellent book. And so much fun to read that I bought a copy for my brother.

So this book is getting to be a bit dated now, having been published about 8 years ago now. I myself have had tarantulas for about 25 years now.Certainly the authors are very knowledgeable on the subject. They also seemed to have gathered lots of great info, especially on some tarantula breeds that aren't we'll known. Also there is no doubt that this book contains LOTS of information. The problem I have with the book is much of it seems like a mind-dump of information, but its not really organized in the best way, and often its very hard to find what you are looking for. Another problem is that the authors often refer to each tarantula by its scientific name, which is great for scientists, but they also need to include the comon name for, you know, us readers. Look up Curly Hair tarantula in the index and you find NOTHING. So you need to go to the Internet, type in Curly Hair tarantula, find its scientific name, then look that up. Overall there are LOTS of scientific names, and it takes endless name conversions to understand this book.Oh, and there is a third problem. Much of this book is references to other parts of this book, which gets old after a while. So your in the Chilean Rose tarantula sections, wait sorry, I mean the Grammostola rosea section, and instead of just giving you details there, this book leads you to all different other areas of the book for snipets.Overall if you are willing to spend lots and lots of time decoding this book, its full of information, but its not a quick reference and I can tell you a few parts of it are also wrong and need updating. The author needs to start from scratch and rewrite and reorganize it. Get rid of the rambling and organize it in an approachable way. Maybe a bit less college textbook and a bit more practical guide.

All the info. in the book can be found for free online. I was hoping this book would provide me with more in-depth information given the word "comprehensive" save your money and just use the internet. You should look up breed specific information anyway,

A fascinating and indispensable guide to everything from basic care and keeping, to the history of tarantula husbandry, to arachnid anatomy! I find myself constantly returning to this guide and referring to things I've learned from it. It's also a great jumping-off point to give new tarantula keepers the context they need to find resources on topics the guide doesn't cover completely. Even if you've kept tarantulas for years, there's probably at least a couple of things in here you didn't know before!

Really difficult to read. Wouldn't recommend. The writing is dry and boring. The pictures are not labeled or captioned. This book is great for color glossy pix but horrible to try to read and often the info is the authors opinion and not beyond debate. Over all I say it looks pretty on the bookshelf but if you really want to actually read about Tarantulas pick a different book.

This is the best book for anyone keeping tarantulas, from beginner to advanced. Extensive information is included on tarantula natural history, biology, care, collecting, housing, feeding, and even handling. Also, selected tarantula species are displayed and discussed. Educated yet easy enough to read. Hobbyists are right in calling this book “The Bible of Arachnoculture”. I really do love this book.

I’ve already learned quite a few things about my new tarantula I wasn’t aware of. Things that will help me care for it and create a safe and healthy environment for it. I highly recommend this book because it offers a lot of information in great detail that can help you be the good caretaker your tarantula deserves.

As a Jain, I highly recommend this book for everyone. It has the original Prakrit language of Bhagwan Mahavir as well as the English translation with an English interpretation. Remember this is Tavarttha Sutra, one of the oldest and direct scriptures of Bhagwan Mahavir, so you know exactly what our Tirthankar said.It answers questions about this Earth, heaven, hell, lifeforms, karma, lokakasha, and has a bunch of interesting things too.Anyone, any age can read it! It has the best English translation I have ever seen. It is worth the buy. I dont know of any other Tavarttha Sutras translations along with the real scriptural lang.

For the seeker and the knower about reality of matter, life and esoteric beyond, this translation is a great book for any student or reader of Jainism. All world faiths goal is to deliver and liberate the human spirit, Tattvartha sutra in this regard is as scientific as it is revealed by the Jaina ford founders right from Tirthankar Rishabdev bhagwan. Our respect to the life we strive to lead becomes more meaningful from a spiritual point of view. A book that must find its place in every seeker's library.

Excellent read; a must for those who seek to understand this great religion

I read this book as a part of my studies in Eastern philosophy, in particular Indian philosophy, and the only term I can come up with is "mind-blowing". I considered myself an agnostic until I read this book... This book contains within the basis of the Jain religion, as well as many philosophical points which students of Eastern (and in particular Indian) philosophy and religion cannot ignore. Truly the best and most comprehensive text on the subject of Jainism.
