My 5-year-old is very into art and loves the Paint by Sticker series. He is able to do them on his own, and would finish a whole book in one sitting if we didn't make him sleep once in awhile! Great for fine motor development, and a perfect alternative to electronics when he needs a quiet activity. After completing the first four books (Paint By Sticker, PBS Masterpieces, PBS Kids, and PBS Kids Zoo Animals), he was so excited to hear that a new one was coming out.Unfortunately, the quality of the books seems to have really declined with the new releases. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the stickers in this book are not fully cut and tear easily when you try to remove them. Even when my son asked me for help on his first picture, I couldn't seem to get them out without lots of torn edges and missing corners. One of his favorite things to do is suddenly a source of crying and frustration. I hope the publisher addresses this issue quickly, and we can get back to enjoying Paint by Sticker as much as we did before.

Mamaw (that's "Grandma" for those of you not from Kentucky :D ) loves to buy our kids stickers, and asked me to search Amazon for some new stickers. I happened upon these books, and in true Mamaw fashion, she said to get them all! This particular book has been incredible for our bird-loving six year old-she loves to complete the "paintings", and loves to research the birds together while she works! I have also found that these paint-by-sticker books help our kids focus and stay quiet during our read-aloud times, and are also great for packing when we will be spending time in wait rooms at the dentist, pediatrician's office, etc. Both of our big kids have used these (ages six and five), and have let me help on several occasions...I was surprised at how much fun I had as well! Our only negative is that they don't have more titles in the lineup, as we have gone through them all already!

I know some people are complaining that the stickers do not fit precisely and leave some gaps, but I don't think that is really a problem. If you really take your time on each individual sticker, they fit really well. There are a few gaps, but I think that that actually adds to the homemade charm. They give the picture some dimension. I had a great time filling in this book, and just ordered two more Paint by Sticker books.

Very pleased with this sticker by number book. This book has enough to do on each picture to make it last longer then a day to do the book. If I start with A1 and go in order and search for the spot the sticker goes, then it helps to make it last longer too. It has 12 pictures to do and I tend to do 3 per night while winding down for bed. Some people tell me that it's an expensive hobby for just 4 nights of fun but I really enjoy them and when I'm in between books I miss doing them. I do hope one day they will get cheaper but until then I will pace myself!

My mom is mildly obsessed with these sticker books. I have bought her all of them at this point as a gift for various holidays or just because, and she loves them. The stickers on average are reasonably sized (not too big or too small), they stick well, and they are organized well. The pages are sturdy and the pictures are fun. It's a very relaxing activity, and I have 2 of the books myself. Mom has done all the adult ones and all the kids ones as well. They need to make more!

Cool birds but some are a little too simple for my liking. I like a challenge. Still worth the ~$10 though. I've got the whole series. I enjoy them all!

I am enjoying this book and would give it five stars but some of the stickers do not come out correctly and I have had to cut them or they tear. Otherwise it is fun to do these. I got the children's book for my granddaughter and we work on them at the same time. She is 4 and loves her book!

Philip Wexler is a Technical Information Specialist at the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) Toxicology and Environmental Health Information Program. A recipient of the NLM Regents Award for Scholarly or Technical Achievement and the Distinguished Technical Communication Award of the Washington chapter of the Society for Technical Communication, he is team leader for the development of the ToxLearn online multi-module tutorials, a joint activity with the SOT. Mr. Wexler is also project officer for the LactMed file on drugs and lactation, and the IRIS and ITER risk assessment databases. He is federal liaison to the Toxicology Education Foundation (TEF), past Chair of SOT’s World Wide Web Advisory Team, and past President of its Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues Specialty Section. Mr. Wexler led the World Library of Toxicology project prior to its migration to the INND/Toxipedia group, and remains a federal liaison to the project. He was a member of the Education and Communications Work Group of the CDC/ATSDR’s National Conversation on Public Health and Chemical Exposure. A co-developer of the Toxicology History Room, he is co-founder and federal liaison to the Toxicology History Association. Mr. Wexler has lectured and been published widely in the U.S. and abroad on toxicology and toxicoinformatics. He is the Editor-in-Chief of three editions of the Encyclopedia of Toxicology (Third Edition, 2014) and four editions of Information Resources in Toxicology (Fourth edition, 2009), as well as numerous other books and articles. I have just gotten into the intriguing world of cichlid keeping. I myself have 3 african (electric yellow lab, kenyyi and a demasoni) and 5 convict ciclids (South American). This book is fantastic, good pictures (must have for specie ID'ing)and a wonderful read. It only took about an hour to read the book from cover to cover but for under 4 bucks...awesome! If you are thinking about getting into keeping these awesome fish or you already have them, get this book!

Not as complete as I thought but perfect for a quick look at cichlids.

I enjoyed the reading... Easy to understand and filled with useful information. Shipping was SUPER fast.

This book is excellent at describing the reproductive habits of cichlids, their natural habitats, and behaviors of the fish. The only down fall it has is it gives most of the cichlids species name and not their common names. I am a novice cichlid keeper and this made it a little more harder to select different fish at the store.

Has old information, but nothing that you cannot make good use of it

I'm looking forward to having a tank of Cichlids. This was a good manual to help me understand the natural environment of the Cichlids thought out the world. I also have a better understanding of the Cichlids requirements in a home tank.

This is a great collection of philosophical writings by Thomas Aquinas.Some things I really enjoyed about this collection in particular is that it is arranged in a way that every passage builds on the previous, connecting them, which is magnificent seeing as they are from all his different writing collections, like Summa Theologica, Summa Gentiles, Malo, and so on. Being able to connect one reading from Summa Theologica to the next one from Malo is absolutely brilliant!The translation was also amazing, as it really kept the true essence of Aquinas while still keeping it sensical.I have to say, I was thrilled by this. It is great for introductory theology classes, or if you just have a passion for Aquinas but do not know where to start.It also has an index, notes, and many other helpful resources in the book to help guide your understanding of the reading.Altogether, I would highly recommend it.

I used this book for an Aquinas & Augustine class from college. It covers direct sources from St. Thomas Aquinas' master work, The Summa Theologica. I enjoyed the texts I read.

This book packs a lot of material. As an anthology, as the other reviewer has ably mentioned, this is wonderful. This book would be extremely useful to the student of Christian theology (Roman Catholic or Protestant) or to the student of historical philosophy. If you are studying the works of Aquinas for history, a few words of caution. A lot of his philosophy is based on Aristotle. If you do not understand basic Aristotle, this can be painful at times. "Actualize" and "potential" and sufficient causes, etc. will appear a lot. If you are unfamiliar with what this terminology means, you will have slow going. This is just a problem with some philosophy. Kant, another member of the big-5 team of greatest philosophers, also suffers from a language barrier to modern readers. But like Kant, you can still get a lot out of it.The editor of this book has put in a lot of useful and wonderful theology of Aquinas. This is good b/c not many people believe in his metaphysics anymore. So his theology may have more modern usefullness. Given his influence over Western Christianity and Roman Catholicism in particular, Aquinas is definitely worth the read. One of the small gems (and unexpected) was a part of Aquinas' commentary on I Cor. 15. Sections on the Problem of Evil are in here as well. I was surprised, but glad, to see that the editor left in a section on the problem of using language to describe God. This was a typical 20th century problem. It's good to see that there aren't many new philosophical problems.If you are just getting into Aquinas (and you have some background in philosophy) this is a good place to start. If you are interested in theology, there is much in here for you as well. Given the structure of the book, you do not have to read straight through.

St Thomas Aquinas's entire corpus is immense and fills several shelves on a bookcase. The Summa Theologica alone is usually contained in three to five massive pages.Aquinas is the most brilliant of the medieval philosophers who tried to reconcile 'faith' and 'reason' in the Christian tradition. Even today, he is extremely important in Catholic scholasticism (in its revived forms) and in many areas of Christian theology. Much of Catholic Church dogma still relies on Aquinas (he is probably the most quoted philosopher in the Catcheism, along with Augustine).He is also well worth studying in his own right. His discussions of God, the universe, the ethical good and virtues are still of interest today. His thought also influenced other great medieval thinkers, including Eckhart and Nicholas of Cusa.While much of the angelic doctor's speculations about angels and demons and about realities beyond our sense experience may seem to make little sense in our skeptical era, his system contains profound and original thought often argued with considerable creativity and genius. The sheer scope of his interests combined with a passionate and sincere spirituality make him by far one of the most appealing of great Christian thinkers.Unfortunately Aquinas has been associated with decadent scholasticism but Aquinas had a healthy and critical mind (given the historical context), a very acute ability to understand philosophical concepts, and he was an original thinker able to bring insights and arguments of his own to a problem.While I believe in some respects Aquinas's conception of God as Being is flawed, modern theology can still gain much from carefully studying Aquinas.

I'm a staunch protestant of the reformed tradition with a great interest in Christian philosophy. Aquinas coupled with augustine, anselm and Calvin is a great thinker.

The best way to know the thought of a great thinker is to read what he wrote rather than what others wrote about what they think he wrote. For St. Thomas, to learn about the world is to take a peek into the mind of God. The collection of texts in this book give a great sense of what he thought about our world, its structure and our place in it. Just enough to whet your appetite for more.

I had been convinced that American has never seen anything like our current political and constitutional crisis before now, with the obvious exception of the Civil War. Jon Meacham has shown me otherwise. This book is a well-written historical narrative of the on-going struggle within our country over the issue of civil rights. Meacham begins his book with Abraham Lincoln and takes a quote from his first First Inaugural Address:"I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature." As the title of his book implies, each president has been challenged to search for the soul of America and seek the better angels. Meacham eloquently reminds us that there are times we have failed but inevitably the American people regroup, rethink, and, sometimes more slowly than hoped for, ultimately choose right over wrong. I have been enlightened by Meacham's history lesson and encouraged by his belief that hope will again bring this country together. Would that every American would take the time to read this book.

I am very familiar with Pulitzer-winning author Jon Meacham. I have read his bios on Bush Sr. and Andrew Jackson and rated them both 5 stars. I watch “Morning Joe” regularly; Meacham is a frequent contributor and I enjoy his viewpoints on whatever the topic of the day is. I must confess though to having been a tad skeptical about 275 page “The Soul of America” (Soul). I was concerned that it might be too early for such a book and that readers might be better served by something more comprehensive post-Trump. But the angel on my other shoulder reminded me that I needed something like Soul right now. As you may have guessed, I am not a Trump fan, far from it. But Soul is not a Trump-bashing book, though it will certainly resonate more with readers who share my political views than it will with the base.Meacham’s 19 page Introduction is an excellent set-up for what is to come. Meacham argues that he has chosen American soul rather than creed because soul goes to the next level – it is about acting on our beliefs. Meacham argues that it is “incumbent on us, from generation to generation, to create a sphere in which we can live, live freely, and pursue happiness to the best of our abilities. We cannot guarantee equal outcomes, but we must do all we can to ensure equal opportunity.” He believes that our fate is contingent on hope winning over fear. Meacham makes reference to dark moments in America’s history and he concludes the intro with “What follows is the story of how we have endured moments of madness and of injustice…..and how we can again.”Following the intro are seven lengthy chapters about some of America’s dark moments, with a heavy emphasis of what the President did (and didn’t do) in these moments of crisis. The chapters included: Jackson, Lincoln, Appomattox, the KKK, Reconstruction, Teddy Roosevelt, women’s suffrage, the Depression, Huey Long, the New Deal, Lindbergh, America First, McCarthyism, modern media, George Wallace, MLK, LBJ. The concluding chapter is titled “The First Duty of an American Citizen”. Soul offered many anecdotes and historical facts new to me. I have read many bios, particularly on some of the characters here, and I was amazed at how many stories I heard for the first time. I will share a few “aha” moments to give a feel for what you might expect……Frederick Douglass on Lincoln: “He knew the American people better then they knew themselves.” The author writes that Adam Smith’s (Wealth of Nations) view was that the “human capacity for sympathy and fellow feeling…was essential to the life of a republic”.Following the Civil War, Southerners shifted from military to political approaches to battle for white supremacy and their way of life.Teddy Roosevelt’s daughter said he always wanted to be ”the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral”.Washington and Hamilton had very different views on immigration.In 1924, every one of the 48 states had a Klan presence. Klan members were governors of 11 states, held up to 75 House seats, 16 in the Senate. Meacham writes that hostility from eastern journalists directed at the Klan convinced a number of middle Americans that perhaps such an organization under press attack must have something to recommend it.(Silent Cal) Coolidge said at the time: “No matter by what various crafts we came here, we are all now in the same boat.A small group of Wall Streeters plotted to raise an army, march on D.C. and remove FDR from office. In 1936, a Gallup poll indicated that 95% believed America should stay out of any European war.Earl Warren, then AG of California supported internment camps.Edward R Murrow: “We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty”. Meacham writes about McCarthy that he needed the press, and the press needed McCarthy, because he was fantastic copy, a real-life serial. McCarthy was in the spotlight for three and a half years. His attorney Roy Cohn: “ ….any outstanding actor on the stage of public affairs……cannot remain indefinitely at the center of controversy. The public must eventually lose interest in him and his cause.” Meacham again: “He (McCarthy) oversold, and the customers-the public-tired of the pitch, and the pitchman.”A journalist speaking of attending a George C. Wallace rally: “You saw those people in that auditorium when he was speaking-you saw their eyes. He made those people feel something real for once in their lives.”Well, the Good News is that we have been here before and the country has survived. As the author points out, we have been a country that people struggle mightily to come to, not to leave. Our democratic system has been tested and stressed and has withstood attacks on our core beliefs and values. In the introduction the author states that he is writing Soul not because past American presidents have always risen to the occasion but because the incumbent American president “so rarely does”. I’ll close on a positive note, a quote that Meacham cites from Eleanor Roosevelt: “The course of history is directed by the choices we make and our choices grow out of the ideas, the beliefs, the values, the dreams of the people. It is not so much the powerful leaders that determine our destiny as the mush more powerful influence of the combined voice of the people themselves.”

Our current situation might seem dire, but Jon Meacham doesn’t want us to give up just yet. His message in The Soul of America is that we do certainly have reason to be alarmed, but maybe not too alarmed. The demons we face today we have faced before and, more often than not, we have faced them down.By the “soul” of America, he doesn’t want us to think in terms of a “speculative and gauzy” entity, but rather of “an immanent collection of convictions, dispositions, and sensitivities that shape character and inform conduct…” The soul he presents is not the essence of all things good and noble in America, but a conglomeration of contradictions. “…sometimes the soul’s darker forces win out over the nobler ones.” One on side there is MLK, while on the other there is the KKK. We can’t deny the existence of the latter, but it is the former that we have chosen to celebrate and honor.And so the battle has gone throughout a number of points in our history where we had to choose between the clenched fist of anger or the open arms of acceptance: the Civil War and Reconstruction, women’s suffrage, the rebirth of the KKK in the 1920s, the paranoia of the Red Scare, McCarthyism, and so on.Meacham covers these struggles of the American soul largely through the actions of the presidents in whose administrations they occurred, an effective approach given his extraordinary familiarity with the American presidency. It also had the effect for me of forcing me to adjust my evaluations of various presidents. I found myself admiring Eisenhower a little bit less over his tepid reaction to Joseph McCarthy, but liking Harry Truman a great deal more for some of the key decisions he made.As for our current president, well, Mr. Trump’s style is one of the primary motivations for this book: “I am writing now not because past American presidents have always risen to the occasion but because the incumbent American president so rarely does.”It’s undeniable, of course, that our “incumbent president” has his enthusiastic supporters, but it’s also undeniable that they are outnumbered by those who look upon the current White House with attitudes ranging from concern to downright horror. And for this less-than-enthusiastic majority, Meacham’s work offers a very encouraging and informative dose of good medicine.
