This narrative, winner of the first (1990) Barbara Savage/ Miles from Nowhere Memorial Award for adventure travel writing, tells of a 1987 trip around the Himalayas by truck, mountain bike, local bus, and foot. Accompanied by their wives, Schmidt, a journalist, and Morrow, a photographer, set out to circumnavigate the Himalayas. Their journey began in Lhasa and should have ended there, but like a similar attempt (Ned Gillette and Jan Reynolds's Everest Grand Circle , LJ 11/1/85), political events terminated the quest in Sikkim. Schmidt is particularly good describing landscapes and the natives of Tibet and Nepal. He is somewhat less sympathetic and colorful in describing Indian and Pakistan portions of an off-the-beaten-path journey and reveals almost nothing about the four travelers themselves. Jeremy Schmidt took an adventure tour of the valleys and towns and the mountains of the Himilayan massif, and wrote a great book about it. The accompaning photos are quite nice too. I had the good fortune of hiking through Nepal back in the '90. This book brought back my memories of that great experience. Highly Recommended.

I'm in a 200 hr. yoga teacher training and realized I needed a lot more knowledge about anatomy since I basically had (almost) NONE. Reviews of Kaminoff's "Yoga Anatomy" got great reviews for those who had a basic working knowledge of anatomy already. For those of us who didn't, many people recommended Ray Long's 2 books, "The Key Muscles of Yoga" and "The Key Poses of Yoga". So, that's where I started. Dr. Long's books are fantastic! Big color-coded pictures with limited (manageable) text. I started w/ "The Key Muscles of Yoga" as recommended; that gave me a basic working knowledge of the muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, joints and their actions, insertion/origin, synergists, antagonists. Then I moved on to his next book, "The Key Poses of Yoga" which is fabulous! Again - lots of detailed pictures with bulleted info about muscles in the legs, pelvis, arms, back, shoulders that are or should be engaged in the pose to make it a safe and effective pose. This info will be really helpful when teaching the "what & why" anatomical details of a pose. His chapters are organized around backbends, forward bends, twists, hip openers and the like. I highly recommend both of his books. After this, I think I'll be ready for the more in-depth detail in Kaminoff's book, "Yoga Anatomy". Already though, I feel like I have a enough basic information to teach poses safely. I know there's a lot more to learn in this regard, but hey, I gotta start somewhere!

Key poses is what you need to start. In my yoga class the teacher doesn't have the time to stay there and show you exactly what to do unless you are taking a private class. This books shows your the key/basic poses, the names of the poses and the muscle groups affected. At least when you hear the names in class you can try to do them without trying to look at everyone else.

An AMAZING book that has truly made me appreciate yoga and why we do the positions. Beautifully written with detailed anatomical illustrations that don't make you feel overwhelmed. But having a Masters degree in physiology I can truly appreciate the details of this book. Should be mandatory reading for any instructor teaching yoga but is a great supplement to those of us who are simply interested in WHY YOGA WORKS. I've bought all of Ray Long's Yoga books and reference them constantly as I continue to learn.

This is THE BEST YOGA BOOK, IIIF you know anatomy. As a massage therapist i freeking loved this book, it has cue to flex specific muscles that the common person will have to look up before knowing, but thats good too because everyone should learn what is inside all of us!

Excellent book. Highly recommend the physical book. But the tablet download needs updates. On the kindle version several of the diagrams (not all, but several), you can not read the letters on the diagrams because they are too small. When you increase the diagram size, the letters become blurry. I wish they would fix that.

I rated this 5 stars because a picture is worth a thousand words! This book shows ligaments & tendons &how they attach to other body areas. This book accurately explains why to so many questions!

This book is fantastic! Have both Vol I & II, and they are invaluable for anyone wanting to learn about yoga, being healthier, or any nursing or med, or physical therapy student.The book shows which muscles are involved in each yoga move - the ones working, being stretched, or supporting the body weight. For anyone in medicine, this also breaks down movements into steps and illustrates why the patient is in pain with that movement. For anyone in physical therapy, is illustrates why you need to do that excerise & shows how it will help you.As a student in a yoga teacher training class, this helps me learn how to do the poses correctly and which muscles are working with each pose and how to avoid stressing injuried body parts. Fantastic reading and a great resource!

This follow-up volume is even better than the first one, because it gets into the fun of things from the get go. The first gives the structure, this gives you wings!Both books are in my top shelf and are never gonna come down. If it were smaller, or if i could find a kindle version of it, i'd be carrying it every time i leave on a trip.Visualizing ALL that this book offers is worth to me infinitely more than its market price. Add to that a brilliant, clear explanation.. it doesn't get better than this.

I have been using HPIM as my reference book since the 15th edition. Overall it's a great book and they are getting better all the time by adding tables, charts and color that helps remembering stuff. However this new edition has some major drawbacks:1. While it seems like a good idea to make a small problems-based volume and a larger diseases-based volume, this is just not practical. Not only the larger volume is heavy and difficult to move around the desk, it is also difficult to read since pages curve very deep into binding due to the volume size.2. I am not sure how authors decided which chapters will be available only on the disk. For example, one of my favorite chapters about transfusion therapy has disappeared from the book and exists only on the disk. I find this ridiculous - every hospital-based physician deals with transfusions all the time. It is much more important for vast majority of internists to know how to manage transfusions and their complications than to be experts in Tularemia, Relapsing Polychondritis or MEN - and these chapters made it to the paper! Other examples of important chapters that can be found only on the disk are Bone Cancer, Antiviral therapy, Poisoning and drug overdose etc. etc. etc.

I am a surgeon on the alimentary tract including liver, biliary system and pancreas, so I have to be informed of the many surgical and non surgical diseases of this organs, and this book along with other books in this field is a very important source of actual information about diseases of the alimentary tract surgery. It is a book that you need to have in order to be quite informed and to keep it close to you if you wish to be a very competent profesional in every field of internal medicine.

I want my 18th edition back!!! Way too many e-chapters and only 10 days of access medicine? What a joke...Who wants to pop in a DVD or go online to get content when you own the physical copy of the book? Horrible. Sticking with Cecil moving forward

We are currently own 27 backyard chickens! I know we are crazy! My girls ages 8 and 6 love this book. It has a bunch of fun activities you can do with your chickens. There are different chicken treat recipes, directions on how to give them a bath, and even science experiments to do with eggs. It has taught my girls the proper names for different parts of the chicken and more about chickens in general.This is a great resource for the beginner chicken owner or for someone who is wanting to get their children more involved it the backyard chicken lifestyle. It has tons of beautiful pictures and illustrations. It even comes with a poster that you can fill out to tell all about the chickens you own. That was a big hit with my girls. I think they showed everyone that came over for weeks after they got the book.

I wish I'd found this book before I got chickens but even after having a little flock for 2 years, I found this book interesting and useful enough that I bought my own copy after borrowing it from my library. I'm cheap so my doing that is saying something. My husband dragged me into this chicken thing and now we're both chicken nuts and spoil our little brats happily. This book says it's for kids but it's actually for anyone. A direct, charming writing style that talks down to no one.

We bought this book for our granddaughter who just got a few chicks. She is 8 and couldn't put the book down! As a family, they have referred to it many times and the advice is straight forward and simple. This book is not just for children, adults love it too! Very well written and so very helpful! I would recommend this book for everyone, new chicken breeder and experienced as well!

Very cute with lots of info about chickens and includes some crafts to do about them and even for them! I have to say my 9 year old loves to read and was excited about our new chickens but this book didn't hold his attention long. It held my attention though and I've enjoyed it!

I am wanting to start getting animals and homesteading. This is a great book for including the kids in the activities and anticipation. And gives practical chore ideas for the kids tells them how to care for the chickens and has arts and crafts and cooking ideas with the recipes they can make and cook for the chickens...very cute . My six-year-old loves it!

Bought this for our 4 year old when we got chicks this past spring. It's been a great, easy guide. Not only for her understanding but also for me! She even request we read some of this as a bedtime story.We will keep it on hand and likely lend it to friends. I imagine this book would serve 6-10 year olds very well.

There are a lot of chicken books out there and this is one of the best I have found. The information is comprehensive without being overwhelming and the layout is reader-friendly. Our children are 8 and 10, however the book is truly suitable for all ages. A must-have for a chicken keeper's library.

This is one of Madonna's masterpieces. A work of art that really changed pop culture, like most of what she has done and does until now. The seller did an excellent job preserving this copy. It was really almost as new, even the Mylar wrapping was almost intact. There was only one page that was slightly torn on the binder ring side, but everything else was perfect (though I still need to listen to the CD). It arrived sooner than expected.

Loved it !! Specially because it really came with the CD and this one came in really good use.Very good for the seller, congrats on being able to keep it all on good conditions.

Monster Girl Encyclopedia is done by Kenkou Cross, a prominent artist in the Monster Girl universe.The book details the discoveries of a wondering scholar in a fantasy world on these beings, and gives not only information but survival techniques and socioeconomic integration of these monsters into the fictional world that is created. In fact, the first page of the book details one to keep an open mind and not to judge the monsters in this book based upon their habits.I for one saw an interesting world built upon the information contained in this book, that could be used in interesting ways; especially in writing or story. Each encyclopedia entry brings a bit of thought or immersion to the mix. Some of the monsters contained in this book can be met with horror, disgust, acceptance, fear and, rarely, admiration.While there is a bit of nuance in timing of this book or information in this book (As in, did this event take place recently or some long time later? How is the scholarly character privy to some types of information?) It is a solid good read.If you are a fan of Monster Girls, are interested in writing or experiencing fantasy worlds, or are ready to experience the newest trend in fantasy writing, this book is for you. If you are looking for pornography, this book has little to offer in that department (besides a couple of sketches) and one would be better off looking at your favorite pornsite.

I had been waiting for this book's release ever since it had been mentioned on the artist's site, having followed his art releases for a long time, though I was also cautious...as many releases of Japanese art/etc for North American audiences tends to get changed, and not usually for the better. I went ahead and pre-ordered the book, and was far from being disappointed in the slightest when the book arrived.First of all, the cover is solid, and the pages are crisp and well-bound, unlike some books that tend to fall apart if looked at crosswise. As for the art on the inside, the color images of each monster girl were how I has expected/hoped they would be, but it was the sketches that I was more concernd about. As I had mentioned, some publishers will edit/etc translated materialsto suit their own tastes, or to satisfy some other 'public' reason, however Seven Seas did not go this route. Not only are the sketches faithful to the original Japanese release of the artbook, but the 'censor bars' have actually been removed, giving us a truly uncensored work.At this point, I can only hope that the sales and response will be good enough for Kenkou Cross' other MG books (the MGE Vol. 2, World Books, etc) to be translated and released over here with the same treatment that this publisher has shown.

This sturdy hardcover volume is an excellent primer for the Monster Girl Encyclopedia universe. Some fans may have come across this from other franchises with similar archetypes such as the Monster Musume or My Life as a Centaur series. While there are marked similarities, Monster Girl Encyclopedia takes a much more sexually explicit approach towards presenting the concept of Monster Girls as undeniable male fan-service. The series beginning as a sequence of drawings with various monster girls and synopsis spawned an original Author Universe (AU) that has seen numerous fan projects such as RPGs, Fan-art, and Fan Fiction pop up. This is the definitive source guide from the original author that collects many of the Monster Girl entries (about 100) into a very comprehensive guide.The translation quality of this guide is excellent and the volume not only details the intricacies and specific information of each Monster Girl type, but also provides descriptive information about the universe and world in which they inhabit. It gives you a fascinating look at not just the physical characteristics and behavior of the monster girls but expands on the role they inhabit in the world itself.The art is gorgeous and consistent, with each Monster Girl given a very distinct look yet the art maintains the same style throughout. There are characters that cute, creepy, sexy, and unique. The main art for the girls tends to be very suggestive and it's fan service is rather high but never outright explicit. Make no mistake however, this book is completely adult oriented and contains a high degree of sexual content. Most of the monster girl entries include a smaller rough-sketch style image showing the monster girl engaging in their preferred method of "Essence extraction" which is a not-so-subtle innuendo the book uses to describe sexual congress with human males. In fact the universe the book describes is innately sexual with the entire concept of Monster Girls being that monsters have changed from the once evil flesh-eating murdering monstrosities of the past to their current forms under the guidance of their new Overlord (A succubus) to be ravenously sensual beings whose primary driving need is sex. The premise while initially preposterous is actually well grounded in the text, and everything works within that premise making it a fun AU to explore.I would highly suggest this book to monster girl lovers who have an appreciation of the perverse. It is an excellent guide to enjoy purely for it's own lore and art, but also as an excellent tool and inspiration for those who enjoy roleplay, as well as the production of fan works.
