I preordered this months before it was even released because I discovered the artist on Etsy and fell in love. Then I spent weeks on Amazon trying to find stuffed animals to match the three animals in the book. Of course on Amazon I was successful. Now have three great stuffed animals that look almost idential to the animals in her book. The book is absolutely adorable and we can't wait for her to come out with another.

This is a sweet book. I had originally bought it because I love the authors prints on Etsy and had hoped to copy and frame pages some from the book but the pages although super cute are not really set up to frame. My 3yr old daughter loves this book.

I bought this book for a baby shower as requested in place of a card. They are naming the baby Oliver and I was excited to find such a cute book with the babies name in it. The story is very cute, sends a nice message, and the illustration is wonderful.

This is the most beautiful book I have ever owned. Indeed, it may be the most beautiful book I have ever held. Browsing its pages on a reading desk is as sublime an experience as looking at the images enlarged to 200 cm by 160 cm on the walls of the Bassano Saal, Kunsthistorische Museum, Vienna, where I first saw many of these same compositions a few years ago. The introductory essay by Georg Ruppelt, on libraries as the "memory of the world," is hopeful and inspiring, and the brief histories by Elisabeth Sladek of the individual collections and their buildings will interest bibliophiles and architectural historians alike. In the quality of the reproductions and their binding Taschen has exceeded even its own superb standards. My only regret is that Listri had not immortalized the great Mackintosh library in the Glasgow School of Art before its destruction by fire in 2014. Outstanding!

This is the most beautiful book I have ever seen. It was a gift to my mother and I made her agree to will it to me when she passes. The pages are thick and we can stare at the images for hours. I love that they are separated by region so when traveling it makes it easy to make a "must see" list. Worth every penny and more!

This book is an awe-inspiring work of art, but it should more accurately be titled "Europe's Most Beautiful Libraries, with limited content from the US, Mexico, Brazil, and Peru thrown in as an afterthought."

Moreover, the two page portfolio format means the chief focal points of these lush photos are hidden in the binding between pages. Deeply disappointing for a $150 investment.

I was recommended this book by a colleague. I love it too. It is about the initial stages of the computer revolution, yet reads more like a collection of entertaining short stories. It is far from a dry read. Included in the front are short descriptions about people and devices mentioned or interviewed. If you're a software developer this actually explains why IDEs mark errors with red. If you're a gamer, you'll learn about the first video game. (It wasn't Pong). I haven't red the entire thing yet, but it's still a good read. External links give you further details and some are entertaining. The book may be titled hackers, but there isn't anything illegal or even ill-intented. It was about the pursuit for knowledge and efficiency. This is a must for serious software engineers and computer science. If for nothing else then leisurely reading. There is a fair amount of discussion of assembly language, which is seldom covered in even college classes, usually one class for a single assignment or chapter. Not much is explained in detail so the education level to understand the book completely is fairly high. There are a bunch of inside jokes, but I do think that an average college student could understand 90-95% of the book.

I first read this book in the early/mid 1980s when I was a Navy electronic tech. One shipmate had the Texas Instruments computer, another had the Atari 800XL. I got my 800XL shortly after. We were playing games from the companies detailed in this book. It was great reading of the authors of our games, putting details to the names. Learning how the whole "PC Revolution began, and the earlier history of the MIT whizkids and the TMRC. I was just really getting into it in 1984 when the bottom dropped out of the electronic/computer game industry, nearly ending it. Luckily it made a comeback. The games got better as the machines were upgraded and improved. Being on the fringe of hacking myself, I could see the very different approaches of Commodore and Atari management, exactly as detailed in the book. Actually living through this while reading Levi's book mde it much more "real" and appropos to me. I can understand people much later being less impressed, as they don't have the context of these events actually playing out.I look forward to rereading it, and seeing what new info is presented. This book played a huge part in my going into a 24 year IT career after leaving the Navy. But programming now has become a heartless industry compared to how it was twenty-plus years ago. Wish I'd been born earlier, in time to take part in the earlier history of hacking and programming.

The book is funny, informative and impossible to put down! Having grown up through the infancy of personal computers, including nearly a one-year stint as a TRS-80 salesman, I laughed often out loud as I followed the adventures of Greenblatt, Gosper and dozens of others in Levy's tales. No other book I have read gives the genealogy of both hardware and software in their embryonic periods so well as this tome. "Hackers" now has a much friendlier connotation for me than it once did now that I appreciate the openness and positive nature of the Hacker Ethic. The news media have made the hackers out as scum/criminals/bandits/general bad guys - Levy casts them in a much different light.The book is great for its humor and history in the 96th percentile of each category! Buy it and be prepared to laugh and learn!

Hackers by Steven Levy is an excellent and rich book detailing the timeline of computer hackers and the hacker ethic. The book starts with the various exploits of MIT hackers and the model railroad club in the early 1950s working IBM computers such as the 704, and the infamous TX-0. The book travels all the way to the 1980s and the Siera On-Line game company and the death of the open source hacker ethic. The book does an excellent job of personalizing the signature characters of the computer revolution proving the point that excellent hackers aren't necessarily the people who graduated with straight A's from MIT, Harvard, or Stanford. Almost 500 pages long with no pictures, it is written in a style that makes you a part of the past, as you where one of the "hackers" per se. Anyone who owns a computer should read this book to understand the word the media has slung into an incorrect meaning and to find more appreciation for their workstation besides browsing Facebook!

If anything, the Epic Level Handbook is UNDERPOWERED compared to what was expected. The progression over 20th level is rather sedate.Some of the skills pointed out as being ridiculous actually can be found used in - wouldn't you know it? - epics like that of Cu Chulainn or the Mabinogion or the Kalevala. Such tales from the real world are FILLED with heroes doing things like swimming up waterfalls and any number of other endeavors normally impossible for individuals, like diverting rivers. The book is about EPIC level play, after all. It's meant to evoke the kinds of feats (not in the D&D sense) we find in legend.While the book does approach this level of play, it is remarkably conservative in what is presented. Sure, the epic spells are extremely powerful - but look at the prerequisites and cost! No character is going to be wielding such magic daily, if ever - unless the campaign was already way out of balance before the ELH was published.The spells are good examples of what to do with the new "spell seeds" concept. The skills and feats are logical, and often kind of mundane, extensions of the material in the Player's Handbook. The new epic monsters are amazingly strange, unique, and powerful. Anyone worried about Monty Haulism cropping up with the ELH need only trot out some of these new critters into a campaign - then you'll see why some of the epic level material is needed. Even then, epic-level characters will be hard-pressed to even survive against many of these monsters.I wasn't too keen on the section about the "epic city." I just wasn't convinced that such a city could exist (I think I saw 29th level, nameless NPC city guards). Plus, I just wasn't too inspired by it. I think that much of this section could have been replaced by more monsters, spells, skills, feats, and other supplemental material.Overall, the ELH is a good addition to D&D, and covers areas of the game I've been waiting to see covered for 20+ years. All the wailing and gnashing of teeth about the book I've seen on the internet has been overblown - as I said above, the ELH, if anything, was underpowered compared to what was expected. And that's better than being overpowered.

This book simply isn't that good. Extremely redundant and covers a lot of what was already covered in the DMG regarding levels past 20th. It may have some ideas for epic tier games and some ridiculously powerful monsters, but other than that it falls very short on my list of required D&D

Pretty much perfect condition when it arrived. Wanted something to expand my campagin further, and this was perfect. Takes some work to incorporate 3.5 material into 5e however.

You pretty much need this book if you plan on running a campaign in which the characters go over level twenty. It has some great instructions for how to create some epic level spells and such, and is incredibly useful.

Needed some 3.5 books glad to find these! They were in perfect condtion now myu set is almost complete! It is always nice to find quality books for a good deal!

Came a little early, perfect condition, & very creative with the packaging. Not much of an environmentalist myself, but I appreciate ingenuity & creativity.

The low grade is for the digital format, not the book. The book is pretty good. Only a couple of minor flaws. When Hirsch discusses the book Mildred Pierce, he assigns it the plot of the movie, which is quite different (there's no murder in the book). When he discusses what kind of director is best fit for noir, he says directors with a generous view of human nature and a painterly view of cinema are a bad match, but he forgets to mention Robert Wise as a serious exception to that rule. Overall his look at the qualities that signify noir, his look at the literary background, and his look at specific components of film production are superb.The digital version is a mess. The first sentence is incoherent. Italics are screwed up throughout. There is no differentiation between font size for text and photo caps, so the flow of a chapter keeps being interrupted. And some photo caps are missing the photos that are supposed to accompany them. Skip the digital (I'm probably going to return mine for a refund).

This is a well researched and well written on a subject of great interest to me - film noir. Mr. Hirsch explains the background of noir, lighting, camera angels, femme fatales, plots and subplots - and all done clearly and well. If you are a convinced student of film noir or you've just been introduced to the genre, I recommend this book highly.

If you like Noir and film it's an essential purchase. Not too heady, and breakdowns of film noir with citation and direct screenshots

A superb and in-depth study, one that is highly informative yet reads like anything but a dry textbook. I recommend that any new fan of film noir delve into this book first before reading others. After this one, see Nicholas Christopher's 'Night and the City.'

Love this book,one of the best ones on Film Noir

Illuminating book on Film Noir. I'm learning a lot in my class. I also recommend The Dark Side of the Screen: Film Noir by Foster Hirsh, which may be a little more readable.Be sure to see the late film noir movie from 1966, Seconds, with Rock Hudson, free on YouTube. Another good movie on YouTube is The Hitch-Hiker, from 1953 - riveting.

The author presents an encyclopedic analysis of the evolution of the genre. This is not a how to that defines what is or is not a noir or how shoot a noir, it's an authoritative collection of a genre through a specific time period that shows the reader what to watch to understand the tapestry of noir better.

Wonderful book, definitely the ' go to book' on film noir.
