Having been a student and teacher of numerous martial arts (Karate-Do, Judo, Jujitsu, Kenjutsu, Hanbo-Jutsu and Tanto-Jutsu), for more than 60 years I have read just about every karate book I could get my hands on. However, I recently purchased a fantastic soft cover book (The Karate Handbook by Ray Pawlett) at a bargain price on Amazon.One of the interesting things I have observed over the years is that some of the very best books on Karate-do are published in England. They do have excellent Karate teachers and this wonderful book is an example of a well-written, beautifully illustrated basic karate text that any Karate student would love. This is not to say this book would take the place of hands-on lessons from a qualified instructor, but if you are presently taking karate lessons this book should be in your personal library. The color photographs are clear and easy to follow.This book is organized into seven detailed chapters and includes the following: Chapter 1, gives a good basic introduction to Karate. The second chapter asks the reader “Is karate for me?” Chapter three explains the various warm-up exercises and other fitness factors. The fourth chapter shows the basic stances and movements in karate. Chapter five explains the basic karate techniques. Chapter 6 covers the basic lower belt Katas (forms) of Karate. Chapter 7, is all about the sparring methods of Karate-Do. And decided that keeping a T is not for me at this time in my life. Perhaps in the future!Please do read this book before buying a Tarantula. If you decide to go for it you will be really well-equipped to handle just about anything, from substrate requirements to bites to creating an Intensive Care Unit for a sick spider.Excellent book. And so much fun to read that I bought a copy for my brother.

So this book is getting to be a bit dated now, having been published about 8 years ago now. I myself have had tarantulas for about 25 years now.Certainly the authors are very knowledgeable on the subject. They also seemed to have gathered lots of great info, especially on some tarantula breeds that aren't we'll known. Also there is no doubt that this book contains LOTS of information. The problem I have with the book is much of it seems like a mind-dump of information, but its not really organized in the best way, and often its very hard to find what you are looking for. Another problem is that the authors often refer to each tarantula by its scientific name, which is great for scientists, but they also need to include the comon name for, you know, us readers. Look up Curly Hair tarantula in the index and you find NOTHING. So you need to go to the Internet, type in Curly Hair tarantula, find its scientific name, then look that up. Overall there are LOTS of scientific names, and it takes endless name conversions to understand this book.Oh, and there is a third problem. Much of this book is references to other parts of this book, which gets old after a while. So your in the Chilean Rose tarantula sections, wait sorry, I mean the Grammostola rosea section, and instead of just giving you details there, this book leads you to all different other areas of the book for snipets.Overall if you are willing to spend lots and lots of time decoding this book, its full of information, but its not a quick reference and I can tell you a few parts of it are also wrong and need updating. The author needs to start from scratch and rewrite and reorganize it. Get rid of the rambling and organize it in an approachable way. Maybe a bit less college textbook and a bit more practical guide.

All the info. in the book can be found for free online. I was hoping this book would provide me with more in-depth information given the word "comprehensive" save your money and just use the internet. You should look up breed specific information anyway,

A fascinating and indispensable guide to everything from basic care and keeping, to the history of tarantula husbandry, to arachnid anatomy! I find myself constantly returning to this guide and referring to things I've learned from it. It's also a great jumping-off point to give new tarantula keepers the context they need to find resources on topics the guide doesn't cover completely. Even if you've kept tarantulas for years, there's probably at least a couple of things in here you didn't know before!

Really difficult to read. Wouldn't recommend. The writing is dry and boring. The pictures are not labeled or captioned. This book is great for color glossy pix but horrible to try to read and often the info is the authors opinion and not beyond debate. Over all I say it looks pretty on the bookshelf but if you really want to actually read about Tarantulas pick a different book.

This is the best book for anyone keeping tarantulas, from beginner to advanced. Extensive information is included on tarantula natural history, biology, care, collecting, housing, feeding, and even handling. Also, selected tarantula species are displayed and discussed. Educated yet easy enough to read. Hobbyists are right in calling this book “The Bible of Arachnoculture”. I really do love this book.

I’ve already learned quite a few things about my new tarantula I wasn’t aware of. Things that will help me care for it and create a safe and healthy environment for it. I highly recommend this book because it offers a lot of information in great detail that can help you be the good caretaker your tarantula deserves.

Sunflower: girasol, he thought.”I am deeply in love with the Spanish language, which I don’t speak. If you love the language, and for many other reasons, you are in for a real treat with THE HOUSE OF BROKEN ANGELS.

In his vivid multi-generational tale of a Mexican-American family, Luis Alberto Urrea offers up fallen angels (husbands, fathers, sons, brothers) and caregiving saints (wives, mothers, daughters, sisters). At times, I had trouble remembering the identities of third or even second generation characters, a confusion exacerbated by their multiple nicknames. And, even in context, the meaning of some Spanish expressions eluded me. Despite these gaps, I was drawn into the wild ride of life events and complicated relationships among the de la Cruz kin. Some are common to all extended families, others unique to a culture proud of itself yet shamed by a society that regards them as “less than” their white counterparts. Overall, the book has the zest, orneriness, kindness, rage, and spirit of a wild and crowded fiesta.

I really want just to say “Buy this book now and read it tonight”. Almost everything has been said about this wonderful novel, but let me add this: There are passages in which the language is so wonderful, you just want to cut it out of the page and chew it up. Don’t be discouraged by the death of the patriarch. This book will make you want to live bigger than you’re living right now.

This is a very good novel. The events happen now and take place over a few days, mostly in San Diego and Baja California. A huge Mexican- American family has encounters, comic and sad. You may want to look up a few words printed in Spanish, but only a few.There is food, sexual flirtation, insults, comedy, and a touch of modern references. If you have a stereotype of Mexican-Americans in your head, this will change it. There is enough variety to keep a reader pleasantly off-balance. I will read more of this writer.

Big Angel is dying of cancer, and his days—even his hours—are numbered.The novel is a patchwork of stories, wrapped in a collage of characters, tangled up in a web of relationships. There is a plotline that runs through the entire work, but it is almost unnecessary. The author may have included it simply as a respectful nod to the ancient art he has taken up—and that’s fitting: this is a novel very much about respect for what has come before.There are a lot of characters, and at first, I found it intimidating trying to keep up, but eventually, I just relaxed and let their stories wash over me. Clearly, the author is sympathetic to readers who might be a bit overwhelmed by the chaos. He does a good job of reminding you at intervals who these people are, and also reassures the reader that if you get confused at times, it’s okay: Even the characters themselves don’t always know if the guy that just walked in the door is a brother, cousin, uncle, nephew . . . or a complete stranger hoping to sneak in and snag a free cup of instant coffee in all the confusion.The reader, of course (at least this reader), feels like that stranger, at first. It is the art of this novel that by-and-by, the reader begins to feel like family. It’s a marvelous transformation.Hey, Sis, pass the condensed milk and tell me another story about our Abuelo.

As a financial planner and now working for a mutual insurance company this is a unique concept that can be built into most clients portfolios. Although this book was supposedly written for the general public and not insurance agents, the concepts would probably be above the head of a layman.I believe this concept can work if an investor is disciplined (not always a trait in today's ADD world), but can work (math is math). The most important thing is committing to the strategy and making sure that people follow the guidelines. If you steal from your own bank or store (read the book and you will understand) this WILL NOT WORK.

Very well written and inspiring. My one complaint is that the methodology in the book is commonly pitted against basic retirement strategies such as Roth Ira, 401k, certain annuity investments. As someone starting out trying to choose an appropriate financial strategy with no prior knowledge, I would have liked to have seen a chapter that compares the whole life insurance strategy versus these common retirement strategies. Perhaps it was addressed, but as a newbie I don't feel as though it was.

Would have given a five if Nash would have stuck with the math and the very sound principles of his concepts. His methods of delivery were a source of great angst ... the concept of being your own banker is excellent but it got muddled by his sanctimonious pontificating and scripture quotes. Not that I actually completely disagreed with it - but the style of delivery and old grandpa approach was a true turn off.Despite his horrendous writing style - this is still one of the best books on the topic - the math does not lie and his passion in the end works it's magic.

The concepts behind infinite banking are simple. The math is sometimes daunting. But if you're convinced (and I was 4 years ago) you'll enjoy this update.If you've never heard of infinite banking, and you want a way to take control of your financial life, check it out. It's the real deal.

The book changed the way I think about life insurance. I am a agent of a major mutual and have been able to easily illustrate these concepts even in this low interest and decreasing dividend environment. Nash does go off on tangents, often sharing quality information and opinions but it's not very relevant when learning this concept. I think the book and flow could be cleaned up as I don't know that the average person could follow along in certain areas. Overall I'd recommend the book and his suggested reading list at the end is gold.

This book is a “must read” for anyone who uses money to purchase cars, homes, vacations. I just wish I would have come across this book 20 years ago. After reading this book you will understand how to create your own banking system that you can use to fund your purchases and expenses in life to help fund your passive income at retirement age and leave a significant death benefit to pass on to your children. Read this book and free yourself from the bondage of the world financial system today!

. I have Kindle Unlimited, which I would recommend all avid readers look into, and rarely buy books anymore. However, I now own this entire series because these books are addicting. Buyer beware. If you start you will probably be into buying them all.

I have enjoyed this series even though I am an adult rider... nice to just get away sometimes and a book is the best way to do it.

As the Bittersweet Farm team preps for the Miry Brook show, Talia and Greer rush off to England to deal with family matters at Greer's family estate. The story was engrossing and so eloquently written that I wound up highlighting and sharing several passages. The characters continue to grow and evolve, and the story ends too quickly! I can't wait for the next book!

I have enjoyed every book in this series. This is one of the best. I love the characters, I truly appreciate the attitude towards horses and riding. I read it in one sitting, and considered the time well spent. It made me think, and it made me smile. It doesn't get any better than that. Very accurate from a riding/horse perspective. Can't wait for the next one.

Setting gives nice ambiance of horse farm. This is well into a series but fails to stand on its own. Characters pop in without introduction and earlier tensions drift through.

Once again Barbara Morgenroth has written a wonderful book with accurate equine facts. One of the reasons I'm such a fan is because any age horse lover can read her books. Not only is the story engaging from the first page and the characters are relatable, but you learn something from every book. So excited for her next one!

I have enjoyed every book in the series. You get to know the characters, the horses and the various relationships so well. I hope there is a #12 coming out soon.

I love this series. A few typos, but easy to ignore. I feel like I know each character, and wish it was a true story.

True to its promise it reads and is researched like Harold Schecter’s Bloodlands series, which is why I picked it up. It’s a short, page-turner of a historical narrative and the perfect length to dive into between other tasks. Every time I pick up Schecter or C.J. March, I realize the world is way creepier and crime-ridden than I thought. Makes for a wicked-bad world, but wicked-good reading.
